Thomas H. Coyne MSW, is the founder and director of NTS and is the former Associate Director of Technology Transfer at the Treatment Research Institute where he worked very closely with Dr. A. Thomas McLellan and the developers of the Addiction Severity Index (ASI). Prior to this he was the director of training for DeltaMetrics, a clinical information systems and outcomes monitoring firm located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He remains one of their chief consultants and trainers who continues to manage and deliver ASI and other trainings for them. He has extensive experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of training; technical assistance and technology transfer. He continues to train nationally on a variety of topic areas and projects in the substance abuse field. He has provided ASI training in 43 states and to thousands of practitioners from all disciplines. | |

| Ron Jackson, Master ASI trainer has been providing consultation, training, training-of-trainers and training of facilitators on the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) to clinicians, administrators, researchers, states and agencies across the United States. He also provides training and technical assistance to agencies and individuals on the delivery of opiate substitution treatment interventions and the use of Motivational Interviewing interventions. |

Mr. Jackson has been working as a clinician,
administrator, educator, researcher and consultant in the field of
addiction treatment since 1972. In 1997 he was named Social Worker of the
Year by the Washington State chapter of the National Association of Social
Workers. In March, 2000 he was given an award by the Washington State
Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse at its annual Public Policy
Conference in recognition of his contributions to research in addiction

Kathleen Meyers, Ph. D. is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology
in Psychiatry with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and
Senior Research Scientist with System Measures, Inc. She has over 15 years
experience in adolescent assessment, health services, HIV and substance abuse
research. Dr. Meyers designed the Comprehensive Adolescent Severity Inventory
(CASI), a standardized multidimensional assessment instrument that evaluates
psychosocial functioning of youth. She consults (and trains) staff regularly with
court systems, drug treatment programs, mental health programs, and schools with regard
to critical issues in adolescent assessment, triage/referral, service delivery, and outcomes
evaluation. She is currently principal investigator of a NIDA-sponsored grant evaluating
the CASI's psychometric properties and computerization among sub-populations of adolescent
youth. She has served on a variety of Institutional Review Boards, Scientific
Advisory Boards, Grant Review Committees, and Expert Panels.

Additional Information on Thomas H. Coyne: Thomas H. Coyne, MSW is a dynamic, dedicated, caring and passionate professional with 20 years of experience in the substance abuse field. He is committed to improving the treatment and outcomes of individuals with alcohol and drug abuse problems and their loved ones. He believes anyone with an Alcohol or Drug problem has the right to the best-proven and effective treatment available. He works towards achieving these goals by "Bridging the GAP" that exists between Research and Practice by providing cross training on many topics and disseminating the latest up to date information on proven and effective interventions regarding Substance Abuse. He has provided ASI training in 43 states and to thousands of practitioners from all disciplines. In addition to appreciating the very useful applications of the content of his workshops, participants most remember him for his ability to engage, relate relevant clinical examples during training and connect with his audience. He believes strongly in the use of humor and that participants should find workshops informative and fun. He is most notably recognized currently for his work regarding the clinical, program evaluation and research uses of standardized assessment tools such as the Addiction Severity Index. In addition he has had extensive and varied experience as a trainer and project developer in the areas of relapse prevention, HIV/AIDS and using Uniform Patient Placement Criteria. His training and technical assistance expertises have been applied to contracts and grants held with the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), National Center on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (CASA), Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Office of National Drug Control and Policy and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Prior to joining DeltaMetrics and the Treatment Research Institute, Mr. Coyne was a private consultant, trainer, educator and clinician serving substance abuse treatment agencies, mental health organizations, the criminal justice system, employee assistance programs, schools churches and community groups. He continues to provide technical assistance nationwide in the use of NIDA Research Dissemination and Application (RDA) packages (a.k.a. Technology Transfer Packages) on Relapse Prevention, Program Evaluation and the Addiction Severity Index. He was an adjunct professor for nine years at Adelphi University School of Social Work in New York, where he taught several courses on the prevention and treatment of chemical dependency. Additional Information on Ron Jackson, M.S.W.: Ron Jackson, M.S.W., is the Executive Director of Evergreen Treatment Services (ETS), a private non-profit community based-organization, in Seattle, Washington, that provides outpatient opiate substitution treatment to over 800 patients. Mr. Jackson has been an Investigator on many research projects, which have been conducted at ETS over the past decade. Those studies, funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and other funding sources, have investigated treatment, motivational enhancement and acupuncture interventions for opiate dependent individuals, cocaine addicts and marijuana dependent individuals. He is currently a Co-Investigator on a Robert Wood Johnson grant which is implementing methadone maintenance in primary care and is the Project Director for a CSAT-funded mobile methadone van service. Mr. Jackson is an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washingtons School of Social Work where he teaches courses to graduate students in the assessment and treatment of chemical dependencies. He is the Seattle-King County representative to NIDAs Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG) and is responsible for compiling a semi-annual report on the recent trends in illicit drug use in the Seattle area for that group. Since 1995 he has been providing consultation, training and training-of-trainers on the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) to states and agencies across the United States.
